According to a new study published in the Virology Journal, the Coronavirus can survive on some surfaces for up to 28 days. The study found that the Coronavirus survived longer on smooth, non-porous surfaces such as glass, stainless steel, and vinyl opposed to cotton, a porous material. Also, the Coronavirus's survival rate went up with lower temperature. At 68 degrees Fahrenheit, the Coronavirus could survive up to 28 days on non-porous surfaces while its survivability went down to as little as 24 hours at 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are three takeaways from this study:
1) Stay warm. Not only does the survival rate of the virus lower in warmer environments, keeping your body temperature up helps your body fight off viruses better. According to a study by Yale researchers, the cold virus replicated better at cooler body temperature.
2) Regularly disinfect high-touch, non-porous surfaces around you such as kitchen and bathroom countertops, electronic devices, door knobs, etc.
3) Wear gloves or apply hand sanitizer after touching high-touch surfaces in public such as grocery cart or basket, credit card machine, handrail, etc.
